White Passing

Description

"Just because someone is white passing does not make them white. Stop trying to erase them from their culture just because you're colorblind."

I define being colorblind as being able to accept or acknowledge that people of color don't exist. In other words it seems that people only determine who is a person of color based on how dark someone's skin color. So you have people thinking that light skinned Rroma are really white. Or light skinned black people or light skinned Indian etc.

But the fact remains that they too face racial discrimination of many forms because they're either a mixed race or believed to be of a mixed race despite the fact that both of their parents were of the same race.

And really if you deny someone who is a person of color their culture based on the light color of their skin, then you're being a racist.

They exist. Stop trying to erase them because they don't fit into your cookie cutter definition of what is a person of color.

My friend Connor is literally 3/4 white and 1/4 black. His mother is a blonde blue-eyed white woman, and his father is a black-haired brown-eyed mixed race man with a brunette curly-haired dark-eyed white mother and a black father. Most mixed people have many varieties of skin/hair/eye color depending on their parents looks and genetics, so Connor got light brown curly hair and hazel eyes because his mother is blue-eyed and blonde. Lots of people don't believe that he is black, just because he has lighter skin, hazel eyes and light brown hair. It pisses him off because people are so racist and disrespectful to him and they're basically erasing who he is.
